Center for Urban Education Leadership

Welcome to the UIC’s Center for Urban Education Leadership, an Illinois Board of Higher Education-approved center that conducts leadership-focused research and evaluation, designs and implements professional development, and advocates for policies that expand educational opportunities and life outcomes of urban PK-12 and higher education students.

Since stepping in to lead CUEL in 2024, we have worked with our College of Education colleagues, students, partners, and staff to lay a foundation to fulfill our renewed vision and commitment to create a world where no one experiences racism or other forms of oppression in their pursuit of education.

This foundational work involved developing a work portfolio to sustain CUEL for years to come, creating new organizational structures and routines, engaging new faculty and staff, and expanding CUEL’s scholarly profile to align with the College’s mission to transform education to advance justice and liberation.
